The Bible Home Tutors
Privacy notice
How we look after the information families, tutors and tutor applicants give us: what we hold, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask of us.

Who we are
The Bible Home Tutors is a Bible tutoring ministry in Lagos, founded by Pastor Daniel Olawande and Pastor Dr Oluwanifemi Olawande. We decide what information is collected and how it is used, so the law calls us the controller of it.
Our registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission is being completed. The registered name and number will appear here as soon as it is.

Our data protection officer
Our data protection officer is being appointed and will be named here. Until then, please call 09131132071 about anything on this page.
What we hold, and why
If you are a parent
- Your name, mobile number and email address, so we can reach you.
- Your home address, directions to your gate and where your home is on a map, so a tutor can find it.
- A record of your plan and your payments. Paystack takes the card details; we never see a full card number.
- The messages we send you, and the requests you make of us.
About your child
- Their name and date of birth, which decide what and how we teach.
- The health answers you give us, so a tutor knows what to do if your child needs quick help. Only you and our coordinators can read them.
- Their lessons: when and where each one happened, what was taught, what the tutor wrote afterwards, progress through each School, memory verses and certificates.
- If lessons are online, a recording of each one, from start to finish. When a tutor is not in the room with a child, the recording is how we keep the door open. Only our coordinators and administrators can watch a recording, only after writing down why, and every viewing is recorded.
Children have no accounts with us, and we never contact a child directly. Our tutors never photograph children. We ask your permission before we hold anything about your child, and you can withdraw it at any time.
If you tutor with us, or apply to
- Your name, contact details, date of birth and home address, and roughly where you live, to match you with families nearby.
- Your identity document, your guarantor's form, and what your referees write about you, so we can check you are safe to teach children.
- Your interview notes, training results and the policy you sign.
- Where your phone says you are when you record arriving at a lesson and leaving it. We do not follow your location at any other time.
- The bank account we pay you into, and a record of what you have been paid.
If you are a referee or a guarantor for somebody who applies, we hold your name, your contact details and what you write or sign, and we use them only to consider that application. A guarantor's form is kept while that person tutors with us, and deleted three months after the decision if they are not taken on. We ask a guarantor for the type of their identity document and its last four digits only, never the whole number.
If a child may be at risk
If a child tells us, or a tutor or parent tells us, something that suggests a child may be at risk, we record the concern, what was found and what was decided. The law requires us to report harm to a child to the authorities, and we do. Those records are shared only with the people who need them to keep the child safe: our independent safeguarding referee, and the police, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency or a health centre when a report is made.
Why the law allows us to hold it
- Your permission. For your child's information, for photographs you choose to send, and for anything else you tick when you register. You can withdraw it at any time on your rights page.
- Our agreement with you. To arrange and teach lessons, take payment and pay tutors.
- The law. To report harm to a child, and to keep the financial records tax law requires.
- A child's safety. To act at once when a child may be in danger.
No decision about you or your child is made by a computer alone. A person decides every tutor placement, every concern and every refund. The one thing the platform does by itself is a precaution: two serious concerns about the same tutor pause that tutor from teaching until a person has looked into them. We never sell information, and never use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
These companies handle information for us, only on our instructions, and only what they need for their part:
| Company | What they do for us | What they handle | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Keeps our database, signs people in, and stores documents and certificates. | Everything this notice describes, apart from recordings of online lessons. | London, in the United Kingdom |
| Vercel | Runs the website and the scheduled jobs that send reminders and take payments. | Information passes through it on the way to and from the database. It keeps short technical logs of the pages visited, and nothing else. | London, in the United Kingdom, with pages delivered through its network worldwide |
| Paystack | Takes card payments from families and pays tutors. | The name, email and payment details of the person paying, and the bank account a tutor is paid into. We never see a full card number. | Nigeria |
| Africa's Talking | Sends our text messages. | The mobile number and the words of each text. | Kenya, where the company is based, and the Nigerian mobile networks |
| Resend | Sends our emails. | The email address and the words of each email. | The United States |
| Daily | Carries online lessons by video call, and records them. | The video and sound of each online lesson, and who joined it and when. | The United States |
Some of this information is held outside Nigeria, in the United Kingdom, Kenya and the United States. We use these companies because they protect information to at least the standard Nigerian law requires, and each one holds it under written terms that let it act only on our instructions.
How long we keep it
- What tutors write after lessons, and your child's progress: kept while your child has lessons with us, then deleted.
- Recordings of online lessons: kept while your child has lessons with us, then deleted, or sooner if you ask.
- When a child completes the whole curriculum, we delete their records 90 days later, so you have time to download anything you want to keep. If you stop and do not return within six months, we delete them then. We tell you the date in advance either way.
- Documents from tutor applicants who are not taken on: deleted after 90 days.
- Concerns and what was decided about them, and the record of who did what on the platform: kept for as long as any safeguarding matter could need them, even after a family has finished with us.
- Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
If you ask us to delete something while a safeguarding matter could need it, we do not refuse: we wait, tell you plainly that we are waiting, and delete it in full as soon as we may.
What you can ask of us
- A copy of everything we hold about you and your child.
- A correction of anything that is wrong.
- Deletion of your child's information, or of your whole account.
- To withdraw permission you gave, at any time, without affecting what we did before.
- To object to how we use something, or ask us to stop using it while a question is looked into.
Parents can do most of this themselves on the Your rights page after signing in, and nobody at the ministry has to agree first. Tutors, applicants and referees can ask our data protection officer, or call 09131132071. We answer within 30 days.
Complaints
Please tell us first, so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, which oversees how organisations in Nigeria handle personal information: ndpc.gov.ng.
If this notice changes
If we change what we hold, why we hold it, or who handles it, we will change this page and email every family before the change applies.
